Young Man of Letters

We've been trying to encourage M. Edium to work on his letters more. He never wants to do them at school; when someone suggests it to him, he just wants to color instead. Until a few weeks ago, I don't think his teachers realized that he knew his letters at all, even though he's known all of them by sight and sound for going on a year.

But then, one day this week, among the colored pages in his locker that I pick up every day, there were a couple of sheets of handwriting paper with line after line of not only letters that he'd copied down, but complete lists of words. In his writing. Even I didn't know he could do that.

We had been thinking that maybe he just didn't feel safe doing it at school yet, which was why we liked to help him practice at home until he got the confidence to try it in front of the other kids. Well, it looks like he got it.

Or else he just decided it was time. Ever since he was born seven weeks early, he's kind of been on his own schedule.
