Top 5 Movie Dads: #4 Eugene Levy in American Pie

americanpi.jpg

Alright, well, while this movie isn't exactly a testimonial to what fatherhood should be on a global scale, I will say that a father figure that is near and dear to my heart is the dad from American Pie, Eugene Levy, who throughout the course of three movies tries to guide his teen son through his "awakenings" to being a man. Levy's character almost reminds of the "Office" types of characters that are so embarrassingly awkward that you just want to jump through the screen to try and help.

But the thing about Levy's character is that he is trying so hard to help his son, is so genuine, and while he kind of flubs his way through most things and makes the situation even worse on occasion, his intent and love for his son is so good that it really is a great thing to see. What most dads don't want to admit is that the vast majority of them have been stuck on more than one instance with the awkward silence of the birds and the bees with their kids, etc.--this isn't really just a "role".

Yes, I know it's a raunchy comedy, and yes I know that Levy's character is intended to be funny in this regard, but as a dad, he really is good and there are certain times throughout the movies that he really touches his son with good advice and overall fatherly guidance.
