Top 5 Movie Dads: #2 Will Smith in Pursuit of Happyness

I am sure I'll get some slack for not putting the artist formerly known as the Fresh Prince in the number one slot, but you'll soon see the method of my madness. Will Smith's portrayal in Pursuit of Happyness, which is based on a true story, is not only inspiring, but it is heart-wrenching and depressing at the same time. The entire movie you are rooting for his character that just can't seem to catch a break, and his spirit remains charged to provide for himself, and ultimately, his son. His single parent issues are about as bad as one can imagine as even in one scene he has to spend the night in a subway bathroom with his son.

The love and determination that Smith shows in this role is one that I can only dream of; yes, I know it was a movie and that's what it is supposed to do, but I truly believe in what his character strove for in every aspect, always keeping his family and his boy at the forefront of everything he did. When at the end of the movie he was able to get a great job and the tension broke like a dam, it really was one of those movies that I'll never forget, especially for the story alone.

And as a father, it's something that I don't take for granted!
