The Lies We Tell

I stumbled across an interesting blog post that got me thinking about the lies I tell my young kids. No, I'm not talking big lies, as needless to say no parent should make lying to their children a regular occurrence. But, I'm more speaking about the little itsy-bitsy untruths or half-truths that we inevitably stumble in to. Raul Gutierrez who penned the post over at Heading East has some really funny ones.

Lies I've told my 3 year old recently

Trees talk to each other at night.

All fish are named either Lorna or Jack.

Before your eyeballs fall out from watching too much TV, they get very loose.

Tiny bears live in drain pipes.

If you are very very quiet you can hear the clouds rub against the sky.

The moon and the sun had a fight a long time ago.

Everyone knows at least one secret language.

When nobody is looking, I can fly.

We are all held together by invisible threads.

Books get lonely too.

Sadness can be eaten.

I will always be there.

That last one really hits hard. I think many of us are guilty of saying 'I will always be there for you'. What lies do you tell your kids? The most recent lie I've told my kids is; 'Water is the best drink on Earth'. While that statement may indeed be true in a practical sense, we all know a nice 18-year vintage scotch is better, but I digress.
