The End of Baseball Season

This week marks the Fourth of July, and it also marks a milestone in my personal life; the end of baseball season. Both of the boys’ games started around the middle of May, and with them playing on the same nights (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), it sometimes gave the luxury of having them play on the same night and some times at the same time.

Am I happy or sad? Well, for the boys, I am sad. Both love baseball, and my 10-year old Caleb has actually blossomed into a great player and team leader. For me, I am actually feeling happy—because every game has meant a 2 hour trip one way to see them play. Now, you may think I am nuts to travel 4 hours round trip to see a one hour game, but I know it’s important for the boys to see me there as much as I can and it’s important to me to see them play and enjoy it!

But I won’t miss the long trips and getting back well after midnight some days (or nights, for that matter), the chronic gas stops (seriously, we are friends now with the guy that we stop at in Illinois), eating like garbage (McDonald’s wrappers abound), and the sleep deprivation that follows. I love baseball, I love the boys, and I love the boys playing baseball. I am not regretful of one single moment I have committed to it, but I can’t say my wallet (and my sanity) isn’t going to improve after this week!! :)

I know it's been a long season but I don't regret one trip. It's been fun watching them learn more about the game and grow this season. Here's to soccer season next!
