Sleeping Through

For being three and a half, M. Small hasn't been doing such a great job lately at sleeping through the night. Not nearly as well as me, at least.

Every morning, I ask my wife how many times she got up to answer his cries during the night, and she tells me once or twice or sometimes more. I know she's not making it up, becuase she's able to rattle off each time it happened despite being completely whacked in the morning.

So why am I never getting up with him? It seems that I'm a much sounder sleeper than my wife is. Also, for some reason, my side of the bed seems to be surrounded by some kind of cone of silence. When my wife slept on that side, she never heard him waking up and I was always getting up with him. So eventually she insisted on switching sides with me.

I'm considering offering to switch back. But last night, he wasn't even here. He spent the night at my parents' house, as he does every couple of weeks, which meant we both got plenty of uninterrupted sleep. Of course, so did he. My mom said he didn't wake up all night.

No fair. I can only hope this means he's getting into a sleep-all-night phase. Just in case, maybe I'll wait until tomorrow before I offer to swap sides.
