Scholarly Questions

My wife and I are torn over what to do about M. Edium's school. In the car on the way home after Family Night last week -- when he had just spent hours running around the park with his school chums and had to be literally peeled off of the slide -- he told us, "School makes me sad."

It's not always like this. When I ask, he's usually excited about school, and looks forward to going. When my wife asks, the picture is less positive. I can't help wondering if he's tailoring his answers to his audience, and what he thinks we want to hear.

My wife is concerned that he doesn't seem to want to challenge himself at school, and that he's slow to make friends there, so maybe we need to find him a new place. Last night, M. Edium sort of echoed this position. My thinking is that he's been going to this school for four months. Which, granted, seems like a lot of time when you're three, but I'm concerned that making him start over someplace else would be counterproductive.

So I don't know. I'm also wondering if maybe he's just a kid who doesn't like school. I never cared for it much, the whole thirty-odd years I went.
