Richard Scarry for Adults

GeneralRipper.jpg

This post -- nine pages of (NSFW) photoshoppings -- is about three years old, but it cracked my wife up when she stumbled across it the other day. A. has developed a great interest in Richard Scarry over the past two months, and her parents -- who recall many of these books from their own childhood -- have been endlessly amused by the psychedelic world of Busytown. There's always something bizarre about the world of children's stories, but its the density of weirdness in Richard Scarry's books that's so entertaining. A worm dressed in sneakers; a cat driving a backhoe; a bug driving around in a "green pickle car." Plus about a thousand other details saturating each page. Without question, Richard Scarry was the Brueghel of the children's illustrators.
