Memories on a Budget--Part 3

Alright, so with all of this talk that I had with getting a camcorder and not breaking the bank, I decided to put my money (literally) where my mouth is. I went out today and bought the Aiptek Icam for 99.99 at Best Buy along with a 4 GB SD Card. Why didn't I get the Flip Ultra that I mentioned last post? Well, in all of my tech-savvy glory, I forgot that with that convenience actually came a little bit more price when you broke things down.

Here's how I figured it; if I spent 130 on a Ultra, I would actually be getting a camera with 1 hr of direct downloadable video along with integrated software. By getting the Aiptek and the SD Card, I actually double my video as well as get a camera that actually can double as a digital camera, whereas the Ultra has had some reported problems with stills. So, essentially, by getting a good quality SD card and the camera, I spent the same amount of money. Sounds like the better choice to me.

I have to stress that I was and am NOT looking for something that is really all that high end in terms of features, and this is how Aiptek describes the ICAM: 4x digital zoom; 2.4" swivel LCD monitor lets you easily view what you're recording; Enhanced 8.0-megapixel digital camera with a 5.0-megapixel CMOS sensor for stunning clarity and detail when capturing still images; Multifunction design: digital still camera, camcorder, MP3 player and voice recorder; Scene modes add an artistic flair to your shots.

I think that's about all I need. I have heard that the microphone is not the greatest in the world, so I may need to purchase as wireless mic, but that's the least of my concerns right now. Academy Award, here I come!
