Lost & Found

While M. Small and I were walking to the park the other night, he stopped short in front of me and squatted down to point at something on the sidewalk. His body was blocking the item from view, but I soon found out it was a sippy cup half full of milk.

"Whose is this?" he wondered loudly.

"It's not ours," answered one of the two women we had just met coming the other way, pushing a toddler in a stroller.

"Actually, it is," said the other woman with considerable surprise. Apparently her tot had dropped it there when they'd passed that way thirty minutes before, and neither of the grown-ups had noticed at the time. In fact, they admitted that they wouldn't have noticed it on the return trip, either, had M. Small not providentially been there at that exact moment to meet them and bring it to their attention. I doubt the milk was any good, but at least the sippy cup was back where it belonged, and we all know that when you need a sippy cup quickly, it's best to have as many on hand as possible.

From now on, I'm going to try not to get as annoyed when M. Small gets distracted by stuff on our walks.
