Little Pitchers

I think the one thing we've retained from all of our parenting magazines -- more than the tips on toilet training, discipline, education, or manners -- is the fact that one day your kid is going to embarrass you by repeating something you said in private.

So far, we've avoided this, but it's not because of the kid. It's because of our own discretion. My wife has always been good about not talking about people behind their backs anyway, and my own general habits have improved in the six and a half years I've been blogging, during which my only hard and fast rule was to write as if everything I posted was going to be read by everybody I knew.

But the kid still has the potential to mortify us, and it's just waiting to be unlocked. Last weekend, we had a guest over, and M. Edium showed him a little box that contained a gift that my wife's mom had given her.

"This is from my grandma," M. Edium said. Shaking his head sadly, he added, "It's too much money."

Win-win for us; minimal embarassment, cute story, plus we got a gentle reminder that the "record" button is always engaged when he's around.
