Hot Christmas Toys 2008: Thinkway U-Command WALL-E

U command WallE.jpg

With the release of WALL-E on DVD over the past month, the Pixar phenomenon that made a ton of money of course has merchandising with about a billion different things available. However, the one that seems to be the biggest potential seller is Thinkway Toys' U-Command WALL-E, an interactive robot. Here's the skinny:

This realistic 9-inch-tall, infrared-controlled version of WALL-E comes to life with animated motion, voice, sound and light effects as kids maneuver him forward, turn him in reverse or make him dance! They can command the easy-to-use joystick controller on this Toys”R”Us exclusive to choose from a menu of pre-selected actions, voice responses and light effects that enable over 1,000 action combos. It is easy to replicate the quirky characteristics of WALL-E by controlling his eyes and arms, turning his treads and even pressing a button to recreate signature WALL-E movie expressions. 7 “AA” batteries required (not included). Ages 6 and up.

In some of the reviews, it notes that for a child's toy that this is quite delicate; and for the cost--around 100 bucks--that can make even the most easygoing parent a bit nervous. However, in recent weeks, the price tag retail wise has dropped to about half of this, and most buyers have noted that it is a ton of fun. So, hey--if your little one is a WALL-E fan, this is probably the one!
