Hot Christmas Toys 2008: Giddyup N' Go Pony

For those of you that want the extravagant end of toys for your kids, or if you have the kind of child that stomps and kicks until you get them that extra special gift, this may be for you. :)

Retailing at around 150.00, the Giddyup N' Go Pony gives kids an almost realistic (well, ok, not exactly, work with me here) sensation of riding a pony that actually moves forward and can be steered by your kids. Check out the specs:

The pony is much like an oversized stuffed toy, with its plush body, longhaired mane and tail, and its friendly eyes. Our child tester loved just petting it, let alone riding it. Beneath its plush fur is a hard, sturdy body that's heavy enough to support to even larger children. It wears a permanent saddle, and the metal, adjustable footrests -- which the toy's instructions call "stirrups" -- have rubber grips for extra security. They're attached to the horse's body with a heavy-duty, permanent metal bar. This toy is definitely built to last. Grip handles are located at the base of the pony's head, and its four hooves are fitted with hidden wheels.

To make the pony move, the child sits in the saddle and places her feet on the footrests. By alternating a sitting position and standing up onto the footrests, she makes a bouncing action that causes the pony's legs to splay out and then come together, making the pony roll forward. Bouncing smoothly and continuously will make the pony continue to roll forward. The child can steer the pony using the handlebars. A brake lever is located at the right handlebar. It can be ratcheted up or down to loosen or completely tighten the pony's wheels.

Well, it is certainly a unique product, and it will probably be the "one" that some children will absolutely adore, but it's a little too rich for my blood. I've read that this is not for the weak of heart though, that when fully constructed it's pretty darn heavy to move around. Still, if it's within your price range, giddy up and get this!

They aren't $150.00 any more. Retailers are price gouging because of it's demand. I was going to get it for 167.10 on Amazon.com plus shipping and handling which equaled 199.99. I thought that was bad enough. One hour later it is no longer available at that price but 299.00. I didn't studder. $299.99! How did it jump 130.00 in ONE HOUR.

Wow, Darla, sorry to hear that. I have a feeling that some of the more popular ones I am putting on here may be way out of whack price wise by the time it is all said and done. Thanks for reading and good luck!

if you are trying to find one for your little one you can do what i did. I was looking for weeks but stores never had them and people online were totally price gauging. I called 1-800-walmart and complained saying that no one is telling me when they will have them in. so they took my name and number and said someone would call me from a walmart store when they came in. No joke 20 min after i got off the phone my local walmart called and said they didn't have any in but a store an hour away had just got 5 or 6 in. of course i rushed over and when i got there i was able to grabb one of the last three. the great part was is walmart had them on sale for 179.00. be persistant with the customer service and they will do their best to help you. good luck everyone, merry christmas!
