There is a local "fun" park in southern Indianapolis called Great Times, which boasts 2 miniature golf courses, a big arcade, bumper boats, and go kart racing. We decided this weekend to make a trip there to have some "end of the season" fun as my wife and I took the day off on Friday to have some time with the boys. My wife had taken Caleb and Jonathan there before, but this was my first time--it was a lot of fun!
We played golf first, and while the wind was whipping a bit (it even pushed the ball around the green a couple times), but it was still warm enough to not have to worry about bundling up. However, the biggest opposition was the leaves. A couple of holes we actually lost a couple of golf balls because of the holes or chutes being clogged up with leaves. We have a couple of funny pics of me and the boys trying to jar the ball loose. At first it was frustrating, and then it was just plain funny.
We then went in to play the arcade for a while--since it was going to be a while before the go kart opened, and boy was it fun getting back to play games like Galaga and NASCAR racing. Caleb even beat his old man at air hockey--a first! (I think this is the beginning of a lot of things I am going to be losing to him as "firsts") And finally, after several games of skee-ball and other things, we cashed in our 4000 tickets and got a spider ring. (Ok, it wasn't a spider ring but it was close).
Then came the go-kart racing. If there's something that can be said about our family, it is that we are COMPETITIVE. We were by ourselves, but that didn't mean we didn't have some rubbin' and some racin'. We blazed around that course and had a rockin' good time, that was for sure. And then--we went home with some great memories.
Sometimes I take for granted having vacation time and the experience that can go along with it. We really had a wonderful time and while I know sometimes that money can be an issue as well as stress that goes along with "fun" parks sometimes, but I wouldn't change this for the world. It was certainly great times at Great Times!
