Get a Baby Backpack To Save Your Back

When my kids were a bit younger we did a lot of walking/hiking. At some point along the way we did invest in a backpack with heavy-duty padded shoulder straps and it was worth every penny. Kids always love being toted around like a prince(ss) on a camel and it is always nice to have your hands free. What should you look for in a good backpack? Aside from the usual tip of trying it out in the store (yes, put your kid in it!) and walk around the store - watch this video for some more good points.

Also, be realistic about how long you'll really be using the backpack for. Everybody has a different tolerance/strength level for being a Daddy Sherpa - keep that in mind when purchasing.

Although backpack manufacturers say you can haul your child in a pack until he weighs as much as 40 pounds, unless you're an athlete in training, you probably won't want to. Many parents roll out the strollers when their children get that that heavy.
