Field Trip

In the nearl four months since M. Edium started Montessori school, his class has been on two field trips. My wife went with the class on the first one in June. I went with them on the second one last week.

Back in June, they went strawberry picking. Several other moms also went with the class, so along with the teachers, there were plenty of chaperones. So I was expecting to be the only dad with the group this time. But when I got there, three other dads had joined the group. There were as many dads as there were moms, and a fifth met us at the place.

There are two possible explanations. The more innocent one is that like us, the other couples have decided to take turns going on the field trips, and the other dads' turns just happened to coincide with mine. The other, more sinister possibility is that the women somehow got stuck doing the agrarian activity, while the men got to join in on a visit to Underwater Adventures at the Mall of America and be surrounded by sharks for a couple of hours.

It's too early to tell, I realize. I plan to do a headcount (or have my wife do it) at future field trips if they are to places like the gun range or the fabric store.
