Father's Day Gift Ideas: The Peaceful Wake Up Clock

Ok, if you are like me, even hearing the mock alarm clock sound "MEEP MEEP MEEP MEEP MEEP" is somewhat bone-chilling, so I am all for anything that is different when it comes to the time when I have to get up and trudge into work. When I read about the "Peaceful Wake Up Clock" offered by Hammacher Schlemmer, I thought...hmm...could this be what I need?

Well, after reading about it, the concept is definitely different--the idea is to combine aromatherapy type of "waking" with sounds of nature and gradually increasing light on the clock to wake you up, and it starts the process approximately 30 minutes before your "time" to get up. It starts out with the aromas, then the lights, and then the sounds until it basically is "at its peak" when your time to wake up occurs.

Now, in theory, this makes sense--because it is not so jolting, not so negative. The thing is--would it be that effective after a period of time that your body got used to it? Sure, at first, the smells would probably heighten your senses and the nature sounds would be different, but my thinking would be after a while the pleasantness of it all would not wake you as would a screaming, blood-curdling alarm that simply has to wake you up to even be turned off does, regardless of how much you want to slam the dang thing down into smithereens. The price tag, comparably, is a bit steep at just under 50 bucks, but I guess if the clock you wake up to is enough to put you into therapy, this is a viable option.
