Dividends

Saturday was what we call a "M. Edium and Daddy Day," which is when we spend hours together as father and son. I figure I should do this as often as possible while he still wants to.

Starting in the late morning, we went to a neighborhood park and walked along the creek that runs nearby. Then we went to another park, where he played in the kiddie pool. Then we went to the beach, where he frantically alternated between building sand castles and wading shoulder-deep into the lake. Then we went to another park with a pool for another couple of hours. All told, we were going nonstop for nearly seven hours.

I figured he'd be so exhausted at the end of the day that he'd fall asleep on the ride home. But if anything, he stayed up even later than usual. Maybe he was overtired.

But then I woke up at 8:30 this morning, and lazed in bed while he slept in for another hour. They say that the rewards of parenting aren't always immediately apparent. This must be what they mean.
