The dearth of WALL-E toys in the stores has forced us to get a little creative. For instance, a Rubik's Cube appears briefly in the movie, so he was happy to get one of those.
Yes, three is a little young for a Rubik's Cube. But then, he's about as likely to be able to solve it without help as I am.
In fourth or fifth grade, I, like everyone else, owned a Cube or two. I also had the book explaining how to solve it, and got fairly good. I got to the point where I could usually get about 20 to 22 of the 26 smaller pieces into the right place from memory, and then only have to consult the book for the final corners. Nearly 30 years later, after M. Edium had given it a few spins, I discovered that all of my chops were pretty much gone.
Now instead of one book you can buy, there are hundreds of Internet sites tellig you how to solve it. I've been kind of amazed at how quickly things have come back to me. I've more or less mastered the top two rows, but the final one on the bottom is still proving tricky. Especially if I want to avoid messing up the first two.
I'm looking forward to reaquiring other childhood skills as M. Edium gets older. Like throwing a baseball, for instance. I vaguely remember being able to do that at some point.
