Child Care Collective

One child is enough for us. My wife and I have always agreed on this, and M. Edium usually seems fine with it as well.

My wife's brother and his wife also have one child, our niece Deniece, who is also likely to remain an only child (she's 6 1/2). As the only cousins on my wife's mom's side, they're very close, and not just geographically.

When Deniece's family first moved into the neighborhood a few years ago, I joked about us four parents starting our own little child care collective. It didn't really happen then, but now we take each other's kids all the time. Friday, Deniece spent the night and part of Saturday at our house with us, and then M. Edium spent most of the rest of Saturday with them while we had the day off.

Having one kid is pretty great. But I can get used to having two kids sometimes and no kids other times.
