Birth Family Occasion

The other day, we took M. Edium to a special event: the 25th anniversary renewal of vows for his birth-grandparents.

I don't know how much I've said about this here, but we have an open adoption situation. Like, wide open. M. Edium knows exactly who his birth mother is and how he grew in her tummy, at least as much as any 3.75-year-old can understand such a thing. He also has a relationship with his birth parents' families. After all, they're his birth families. They're part of who he is, and we want him to understand that.

So that's how we ended up spending a windy Saturday afternoon at a park, while two people we otherwise never would have met reaffirmed their commitment to one another. We were all happy to be there, because if they hadn't gotten together years ago, then they wouldn't have had their youngest daughter, and we wouldn't have our son.

Seems like the least we could do.
