Big Deal

My 3½-year-old son, who I call M. Small on my other blog, may be outgrowing the name.

He's getting a little sensitive about his size. As we learned at his checkup last week, he's in the 90th percentile for height for his age group. Which doesn't help him in his home life, because he's squarely in the 50th percentile for height in our house. And that's only if you count the cats.

I've been calling him "Little Dude" since before he came home from the NICU, but he's been starting to protest. Instead of answering to it, he'll say, "I'm big." Which you must then acknowledge before moving on.

Anyway, we had friends over last weekend, and he was playing with one of them by sort of barricading himself in the guest bedroom and then yelling at our friend to come in. "I can't come in, I'm too big," our friend said. 'Why don't you come out?"

"I can't come out, I'm too medium," M. Small called back.

So maybe it's time to start calling him M. Edium.
