Despite my wife's optimistic view of my six year old son, Jonathan, and his gung-ho daredevil ways as he approached Kings Island for the first year he would be able to ride the big roller coasters, as I posted in my last discussion about us going to the theme park, I had a notion that it was a lot of talk and not a lot of backing it up.
Well, after a brief run on a few smaller coasters, Jonathan rode on a mid-level coaster, the Racer, and afterwards suddenly was not so sure about the big ones, including the Beast, which he had been boasting he would ride to everyone. It even turned into some tears and some pouting before lunch until we righted the behavioral ship, and then after that we didn't force Jonathan but still tried to sell him on the fact that he'd be just fine.
Thankfully, after the relief that he wouldn't have to ride anything he didn't want to, he was a trooper as he waited with us in some lines for big coasters and would just step out to the side when we went on the ride. We rode some of the mid-level coasters and he got to go on some smaller rides, and overall we would rate this a success.
Granted, it was like four thousand degrees there and I couldn't tell if I was wet from Whitewater Canyon or soaked in sweat, and the park basically raped us for lunch and dinner, but all in all it was another great time. My wife, Caleb, and I each got to go on Firehawk for the first time, although the wait (on a Tuesday, no less!) was over an hour. It was a great ride.
As I sit here typing away with the only part of my body that doesn't hurt (my fingers, and now they are starting to ache a bit), the boys are behind me in our hotel room sawing logs. It's always a good thing when the vacation you take kids on tucker them out!! Now it's my turn to outsnore them. Good night.....
