A Fixed Holiday Schedule

Normal divorce decrees have pretty much everything set up in terms of every single day, weekend, holidays, and even the time and place for all of these things. However, in my case, it's been something that has been a godsend. Yes, we do have a decree that was created upon the official separation almost 5 years ago. Still-even then,we were very loose as to how we actually enforced the decree.

With weekends, we've been very flexible according to the boy's activities. My ex-wife and I often make schedules kind of on the fly, mostly a couple of months at a time and some times not even that. With holidays, it was really one of those things where we just went on a trade off every year from one major holiday to another. The thing is that really with that we still would mix and match things from time to time, and sometimes that meant that we would have a hard time planning far in advance. When we deal with major holidays and events as well as families that also have to coordinate their own times, it could be a little difficult for some things.

But now, that should hopefully solve itself. We just made a verbal agreement recently to have a fixed holiday schedule, and I think it should make a great deal of difference! We will still go off and on for Thanksgiving and share Christmas and I will still get a lot of time in the summer and Christmas break, so I am very thankful for all the additional time. And plus I get my favorite major holiday with them every year--4th of July! Again, as the non-custodial parent, gotta always look for that silver lining! :)
